Laser Therapy Q & A

What is cold laser therapy?

Cold laser therapy stimulates healing with low levels of light. Unlike surgical or aesthetic lasers, it does not cause your tissues to heat up, which is why the procedure is called “cold” laser therapy.

How does cold laser therapy work?

Dr. Worley applies low-level light directly to your problem area, where your tissue can then absorbs the light. That leads to a biological reaction to the infrared light that helps your damaged cells regenerate.

Cold lasers are flashlight-sized hand-held devices. Dr. Worley places the laser directly over your injured area for 30 seconds up to several minutes. The time depends on the size of the area he’s treating, as well as the dose.

Dr. Worley will determine that number of sessions you need based on your condition.

During the procedure, you’ll feel the device against your skin, but it doesn’t create heat, sound, or vibration. The treatment is completely non-invasive and painless.

What are the benefits of cold laser therapy?

Cold laser therapy is a safe and effective treatment for acute and chronic conditions. Unwanted side effects due to medication or surgery aren't even a possibility. Other benefits include:

  • Healing times are three to five times faster than with other treatments
  • Reduced pain and inflammation
  • Improved circulation
  • It’s non-invasive
  • Immediate pain relief

What conditions will cold laser therapy treat?

Cold laser therapy primarily stimulates tissue repair, pain alleviation, and relief from inflammation. However, it can also treat a variety of conditions including:

  • Neuropathy
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Arthritis
  • Shoulder and knee pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Strain and sprains of most joints

Cold laser therapy is an excellent option if you’re looking for pain relief while avoiding the hassle of medications and recovery time of surgery. Dr. Worley may choose to use laser therapy in addition to other techniques when treating your condition. However, he won't' recommend it if you’re pregnant.
